Nadia Murad was born and raised in the small village of Kocho, Iraq. A member of the Yazidi community, an ancient religion that predates Islam, she and her many siblings lived a happy life. Nadia’s peaceful existence ended on August 3, 2014, when ISIS began its savage genocidal campaign against the Yazidi people. Nadia’s mother and most of her family members were executed. Nadia, along with her sisters and thousands of others were taken captive and subjected to unspeakable crimes. Nadia was only 21 years old.
She was raped and tortured on a daily basis. After facing these unimaginable atrocities, she was able to escape ISIS control. With help, she fled to Germany where she received medical attention and reunited with other survivors. In total, Nadia lost 18 family members. Today she bravely tells her story on the world stage, forcing world leaders to listen to the horrors of the on-going genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Nadia is coming to Abilene to specifically speak about justice and standing against ISIS. Global Samaritan Resources is sending help directly to the Yazidi people.
